Over the past year We’ve had the privilege of composing the score for the most important project we’ve worked on to date. It’s a 6 episode series called UNHEARD (Produced for Amazon Prime, by LAD Bible Studios Australia). In each episode we hear first-hand how racism in Australia destroys lives, and about the systems in place that sustainably hold down Indigenous Australians, people of colour, refugees, and ethnic minorities. It was a great honour to work on this documentary series looking into racism in Australia. Everybody knows Australia has a reputation for being a racist country, however I don’t believe your average white Australian knows the depth of the racism in this country. Even though I read a lot of articles, I think I still can’t grasp the absolute all-consuming inequality that so many Australians live with each day, I don’t think you can, unless you experience it first hand. For us lucky ones who don’t have to live with it, we should at least hear stories from those who do, so we can become more aware of the impact of words, actions, and policy. So we can call it out, support those who need it, vote for change...
While it’s often a hard watch full of incredibly uncomfortable truths about Australia, we do believe every Australian should hear these stories, told by the people who live with this deeply engrained racial inequality every day. We feel immensely proud to have been apart of this project. Massive shouts to Shahn Devendran and all of the directors, and everyone involved in bringing this series to life. And of course above all, the brave individuals who have shared their stories on the show. It’s an intense watch, but you need to hear the stories of the Unheard.
