MTV Website Relaunch

MTV hit me up to create an engaging, exciting, spot to relaunch their website, and it had to be relevant in 2020. I composed a bespoke music track to drive the promo, and used emotive footage that would really speak to the audience. The website relaunched as more than just a music and reality TV destination but with new lifestyle pillars of Shows / Music / Culture / Life. Their new editorial content would cover music, sex and relationships, activism, politics, and everything in the spectrum of youth culture in Australia. And this is the spot that that kicked it off.

In 2020 Summer Studios composed the music for a global digital campaign for Bose. Working with Rasic & Partners and Gray we worked to a detailed brief to create 6 different iterations of a song we composed for the campaign. They all had to represent the personality of the people in each of the spots, and link together with a common musical motif to seamlessly link the Bose range together. The result was a unique, diverse campaign reflecting the emotion of each individual person in each of the spots.

We recently had the pleasure of collaborating with Jody Malam and EVO Films in the US for some FXX channel promos. FXX is FX Network's movie channel. In this execution we composed a hip hop song and put the spotlight on the trapping Minions. This was a lot of fun to make!

Here at Summer we’ve been involved with MTV Unplugged since it’s inception in Australia. Working across branding communication, logo design, directing and editing. Initially we were briefed to make a launch spot to announce that MTV Unplugged was coming to Australia for the first time ever! And who better to premiere the show than Australia’s own Gang Of Youths. We interviewed Dave Le'aupepe and created an epic, emotionally charged piece getting fans excited for Gang Of Youths Unplugged.

Enerate - The Interactive Visual Album

It’s really quite rare that you get to make a world first. But with the interactive visual album we made for Australian band Enerate, it was just that. For their new album, we produced an interactive music video for each of the 8 songs, the Interactive Visual Album came as a mobile app. This is the future of music videos. It contains music videos with multi-tangent narratives, video games, and viewpoint controls. The first of it’s kind, the Interactive Visual Album was selected to be a part of Bigsound Tech in 2018, for entrepreneurial excellence in new music technologies, and also showcased at VIVID Sydney’s Clipped Music Video Festival.

Brother: At Your Side

We got the opportunity to work on a fun little series of spots for Brother. Summer Studios was charged with the music composition. The theme was duplication and repetition. We were briefed to compose a music track influenced by the repetitive drone of office operations, and recontexturalise it into a fun, energetic electro track.

Bose x Wallabies

Bose have just come on board as the official audio partner of Australia’s rugby team, the Qantas Wallabies. We took care of editing, video post and music composition for their first piece of communication about the multi year branding deal. The result was a suspenseful spot that builds to the climax. With Bose wireless noise cancelling headphones, you can allow yourself some peace before taking the field. The calm before the storm.

Hook Up

New work coming online soon! Summer Studios composed the score to the film Hook Up, which premiered at Melbourne Queer Film Festival in 2020. It’s currently doing the festival circuit, but we’ll share the project as soon as it’s out in the world. The film picked up the Film Victoria award and Best Director at the 2020 MQFF event.

His concept-lead approach has seen him design and build an interactive installation for Google, create international campaigns for MTV, and create a world-first interactive visual album as an app. At Summer, creative always starts and finishes with Music, and Summer Studios prides itself on being a music-first agency.
Josh is also a seasoned composer and music producer, having scored international campaigns for Bose, FX, The Wallabies, Brother, MTV, Comedy Central, Spike, and short films and documentaries.
